Pregnancy Multi-Vitamins Comparison
Elevit Vs Natalis Ingredients
Please see the table below showing the ingredients of Elevit and Natalis side by side. Elevit and Natalis are virtually identical apart from the name. The difference is Natalis has 1 mg more B1 and 1 microgram more Cyanocobalamin than Elevit.
The key ingredient of both Elevit and Natalis is 800mg of Folic Acid. A typical women’s multi-vitamin contains about 300mg of Folic Acid. Folic Acid is found in leafy green vegetables like broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, spinach and peas. If you are not getting enough grees then the Folic Acid boost could help.
What is Folic Acid?
Folic acid is the water-soluble man-made form of the B vitamin folate also called vitamin B9. Folic acid helps your body make red blood cells and red blood cells carry oxygen to all parts of your body.
What is the recommended dose of Folic Acid for Pregnant Women
Most health authorities (for example QLD Health) previously recommend a Folic Acid supplement of at least 400 micrograms (μg) per day 12 weeks before pregnancy and during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. QLD Health has now retracted the ‘recommended’ dose from its website and refers to a healthy diet of leafy green vegetables and how all bread products now contain folate (yes that toast is laced with vitamins you didn’t know were there). Both Elevit and Natalis contain double this recommended amount at 800 micrograms (or almost 1 milligram).
1 microgram (μg) is one one-thousandth of a milligram (mg). Or put another way 1 milligram (mg) is 1,000 micrograms (μg).
